In recent years, with the rapid development of China's publishing and printing industry, it has become the "pain point" of environmental protection governance. For a long time, offset printing technology has a series of environmental protection and safety bottlenecks. In the traditional production, printing enterprises need to use a lot of alcohol or isopropanol, these auxiliary materials are always emitting organic volatiles, and the "flying ink" in the production process will also damage the health of workshop staff. According to the calculation, the whole industry produces about 2 million tons to 2.5 million tons of volatile organic compounds every year, and produces about 30000 tons of waste liquid and other pollutants; there are hidden dangers in the transportation, storage and use of flammable and explosive auxiliary materials; at the same time, the printing process is difficult to control and the quality is unstable, which also leads to high production costs. Therefore, green emission reduction and process innovation has become a difficult problem in the printing industry.

After a long time of experiment and improvement, without changing the original main structure of the equipment, the technical personnel of both sides can complete the equipment transformation by adding external water tank and replacing internal water roller. In January this year, the research team completed the modification and commissioning of the "tap water offset" technical equipment of Heidelberg cd102-4 four color sheet fed offset press, comprehensively sorted out the parameters such as equipment pressure, and could stably print monochrome and color books, magazines and picture books. The color of printing products is stable and the color difference is small. 1% - 99% of the dots can be clearly displayed. Water offset printing avoids the use of alcohol, fountain solution and more than 40 kinds of chemical agents, eliminates the harm of volatile substances such as alcohols, and reduces the printing cost greatly.

"This innovative technology directly uses tap water to print. In fact, it removes all the chemicals involved in the fountain solution, which is certainly good for environmental protection." Beijing Printing Institute Printing and Packaging Engineering School Professor Wei Xianfu said. The test report shows that the technical device, which has obtained domestic and foreign invention patents, has been running stably for several months and has remarkable social and economic benefits.

At present, there are nearly 4000 large-scale enterprises in China's printing industry, and there are about 10000 offset printing production lines. Last year, the total output value of the whole industry reached 1.2 trillion yuan, with about 3 million employees in the industry, and about 700000 employees in the offset printing production line. Some experts believe that if this innovative technology is popularized in the whole industry, a large number of employees and the whole society will benefit, and enterprises can save more than 10 billion yuan in production costs annually.
